david difabrizio: Ancient China

Slavery first started in China during the Xia and Shang dynasty which was 20th – 11th century BCE. The main difference between slaves in China and slaves in Rome, Greece etc., was that the slaves in China were owned by the state instead of by an individual. They made up for a great amount of the population and the economy.

As China grew throughout the years, so did the slavery system. It became more advanced and efficient, and it kept getting better until its final abolition in 1906. If there is one country that has to be extremely grateful for its slaves it is China. Even to this day, they use similar tactics with their laborers, especially the underaged ones. It is sad, but it is what goes on in China with the illegal child labor.
